You'll need a good degree pass, for example first class or upper second class, relevant to the subject you want to teach. You'll also need to have completed a postgraduate master's or PhD qualification, or be working towards one. It's common to have had academic work published.

You'll have a number of lesson observations on each placement, carried out by both your teaching mentors and your university lecturers. You'll submit academic essays, and end up simply with a pass or a fail for the PGCE. You will also be judged against the Teachers' Standards to be awarded QTS.

The PGCE (Teaching Studies) is a thirty four week full time programme of study commencing in mid- September each year and is available to graduates with appropriate degree qualifications and experience of working/ volunteering with students.
